Vashon Sheepdog Classic

October 1, 2, 3 2010

What a brilliant idea! Maggie McClure took it upon herself to resurrect the beloved Vashon Island Sheepdog Trial, after several years of dormancy and unbelievable changes for many of us.  She worked like a dog!

What a wonderful success.  The community embraced the trial with warmth and zeal; the competitors,  canine and human alike, stepped up admirably to the challenges offered by eastern range sheep (provided by Harlow Sheep Company)  and the rolling manicured field of Misty Isle Farm.

The estate of the late Tom Stewart generously allowed the use of the farm for the trial, as in days gone by. We are very grateful for the hospitality.

As a former resident of Vashon, and one of the founders of the trial back in the day, this event had special meaning for me.  Returning to Vashon for a trial after several years was somewhat bittersweet for me.  I spent many of the happiest and most fulfilling years of my life there, and going back brought up many memories and emotions.  Not to worry!  The experience was wonderful. The trial was grand, the weather was benign, (a great feat at that time of year), and to top it all off, my trusty and enthusiastic Ripley won Open one day.  A good time was had by all, I can say with confidence, and we are very much looking forward to returning next year.
